[18/01, 7:56 p.m.] Jibril: Introduction

ABS' MAKINWA SCARED OF LOSING WASIU ALALADE
[18/01, 7:57 p.m.] Jibril: ABS coach Henry Makinwa has revealed that he is worried about losing striker Wasiu Alalade following his splendid performance in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Alalade scored eight goals in his last 11 games and with the Saraki Boys relegated from the Nigerian topflight, the gaffer is unsure of the future of his prolific forward.

"He is very disciplined and humble and doesn't joke with his job," Makinwa told media.

"Wasiu works very hard in training every day and that paid off for him and us when we needed him.

"His study didn't allow us to get the best of him during the cause of the season because of his exams in school. His combining education and football together shows how disciplined the young lad is.

"Wasiu is not the only talented players in ABS, there are plenty others too like Adeoti, Dada and Chindo, etc. Not many clubs in the country will follow our policy of developing these guys.

"The average age of many of players is 20 and I'm sure not many clubs in the country would want to take the risk of prosecuting the league with players like that.

"We didn't regret we played these players because our work will pay off when we see some of these guys in the national team in the future," he concluded.
[18/01, 7:59 p.m.] Jibril: Abdulrahman Bashir: I’m hungry for my first league title with Enyimba
[18/01, 8:00 p.m.] Jibril: Newly signed Enyimba FC striker, Abdulrahman Bashir has said his number one desire is to win his first league title with the ‘peoples elephants’ of Aba. The former ABS, Lobi Stars and Nasarawa United striker told SHOT! that since he turned professional, he is yet to win a league title but everything will change in 2018. He also spoke on his experience after he scored the equaliser for the NPFL All Stars team against La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
How is life with you in your new club, Enyimba FC of Aba?
Everything is very okay. I have played in the club before so I am just fine here. I know exactly what they need and what they can do. I know most of the players here. Even when I left the club, I still played against them several times. So we are like long time friends. Therefore, when I returned it was easy for me to settle down.
What is your target in Enyimba for the 2018 football season?
My first target is to win the league title. I want to win trophies for Enyimba. Since I started playing professional football, I am yet to win a title with any of the clubs that I have played for. I played for ABS, Enyimba, Lobi Stars, Nasarawa United and now Enyimba but I am yet to win a league title so this time I want to win as many trophies as possible. I would like to win the confederation Cup, the league title and Aiteo Cup. This is my dream and I believe that we have the calibre of players who can do the job. It is all about hard work and determination. I am really hungry for my first league title.
You spent some seasons in Nasarawa United. What was your experience in the club?
My time in Nasarawa United was a wonderful experience. I had the support of everyone in the club. The coaches, management, my team mates and the fans loved me greatly. The only thing is that they expected so much from me because they knew about my pedigree as a striker. But I am happy that despite the injury I suffered, I still did my best for the club. My happiness is that even when I was injured, they showed concern. I was not abandoned. Nobody forced me to play and I was given all the necessary attention. So in a nutshell, I really enjoyed my stay in Nasarawa United.
So why did you leave Nasarawa United for Enyimba?
I want to reiterate that Lafia is just like my second home. However, I left Nasarawa United because I want to move forward in my career. As a professional, I have to give priority attention to my career. Enyimba will be playing in the continent and I know that that is a big stage for me to market myself as a player. I did not leave Nasarawa United because of any problem.
How many goals did you score for Nasarawa United in the 2017 season?
Like I told you earlier, I suffered an injury that kept me out for some time so I only managed to score six goals which was a far cry from what I wanted for myself and the club. I missed up to 12 matches.
How ready are you for the 2018 season with Enyimba?
This time I am okay. I am rearing to go. All I can say is that even if the league commences today, I will give my new club my best performance. Although I had a little knock during our pre-season camping in Akure, it is nothing serious. We are all ready for the 2018 season.
How much do you know about your new coach Paul Aigboun?
I have not played under him but I played against him so many times in the past. Let me say even before now, he knew about me and we interacted once in a while when he was in charge of Enyimba and Warri Wolves. I played against his teams. So I can say he is not a total stranger to me. As a matter of fact, he is like a father to us and is doing his best to take everybody along. He is a coach who knows his job.
Do you believe under Aigboun Enyimba will go far in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup?
We are going to go far in the confederation Cup. We have a management that knows everything about continental football. Our technical adviser Paul Aigboun too has been there several times so he knows the business at that level. In addition, most of the players in Enyimba have experienced continental football. So we have the calibre of players who can do the job but we still need luck to achieve our dream in the continent.
Enyimba have signed so many new players. Do you think the team will blend in time for the 2018 season?
It is possible because we are not completely new to one another. We play in the same league and have met a number of times in the course of playing for our former clubs. Moreover, those who assembled us in Enyimba know that as professionals it won’t take us a long time to blend. All we need is to listen to instructions and play professionally. Already we are adapting very fast to the football philosophy of the technical adviser.
What is your assessment of the Nigeria Professional Football League?
Our league is improving under the League Management Company. Shehu Dikko and his team are doing a fantastic job. More money is coming into the league. Officiating too has improved. Referees are now being fair and firm. It is now possible for teams to win away or draw. This is good for the league. However, we are not yet there. There is need for improvement in areas like players’ welfare. Players deserve better treatment.
When you debuted in the NPFL for ABS, many people thought by now you will be playing for Super Eagles but that is yet to happen. What is the problem?
Everybody has been asking this question but football is a game of time and chance. When you get your chance nobody will stop you. When it is my time, they will call me to come over and make my contributions. I am still doing my best and praying to God for a chance. One thing I know is that no matter how good you are, you cannot force yourself on the national team. You must exercise patience and wait for God’s time. Once He says yes, nobody can say no. So I am yet to make my mark in the Super Eagles but I still believe that my time will come in no distant future. I am not worrying myself over my inability to play for the Super Eagles.
How happy were you when you scored against a big club like Atletico Madrid during the NPFL ALL Stars tour of the La Liga?
To be honest I was really happy when I scored. Although it is a normal thing to score, I couldn’t believe I scored against a club like Atletico Madrid. It took me some seconds to believe it really happened. However, I quickly concluded that it was a match and it is normal for a striker to score. So I was really happy but that is history now. If I get a similar opportunity in future, I will do the same thing.
Is that the best goal, you have scored in your career?
No doubt it was an important goal and it will linger in my memory for a long time but I cannot say it is my best because I still have many goals to score. My best goal is yet to come.
